30 Floors Up Roblox barricades and your front door

Before you open the door

  1. ListenScratching or banging means zombies
  2. PeepholeShine a flashlight through it at night
  3. Hook the chainThe door opens only a crack
  4. Talk, then decideClose and lock if in doubt
The door routine from the survival book and the guides.

Short answer: lock and chain the front door every night, look through the peephole before opening it, and push furniture against it on the nights a crowd is coming. Do not build a wall you cannot take down: players have sealed themselves in and starved. If the door breaks, repair it with screws and a board.

Your front door, step by step

Control What it does
Lock The first tutorial objective. Locks the door from inside.
Chain (hook / unhook) Lets the door open only a crack, so you can talk to someone without letting them, or anything behind them, in. Unhook it before you go out.
Peephole Shows the hallway. Players also shine a flashlight through it at night to see what is outside.

Rule from the survival book: listen before opening a door. Zombies scratch and bang on the door when they are there; silence is a good sign but not a guarantee.

How do you barricade the apartment?

You can pick up and push heavy furniture: the couch, the kitchen table, even the fridge. Pushed against the door, it stops zombies from breaking in. On crowd nights players watched a horde bang on a “max barricaded” door without getting through.

The catch, reported in more than one run:

  • You can trap yourself. One guide describes stacking the couch, table and fridge against the door, then being unable to clear it fast enough to go out for food. Another player found the couch stuck in place and could not open the door at all.
  • Furniture can get stuck in odd spots. A co-op group dropped a table in the doorway by accident and could not move it again.

So barricade with one or two pieces you know you can move, and only on the nights the game warns that the crowd is coming (hordes). Moving furniture is noisy, so do it before the crowd arrives, not while they are at the door.

What if your door breaks?

Zombies can break the door down. After a break-in the game gives the objective “repair the entrance before tonight”. Players found that it needs screws and a board: boxes of screws turn up in closets and the toolbox, and boards in other apartments and the room behind the medical cabinet. Keep one of each at home once you find them.

Until it is repaired, close yourself in a smaller room (the bathroom door locks) and fight in the doorway one zombie at a time.

Should you open the door to people?

The first knock is Daniel, on night 0. Use the chain, talk, and decide (Daniel). Later knocks are usually other survivors asking for help, but check the peephole first every time.

Windows and the balcony

The emergency alert says to lock the windows too. Players closed the blinds on day 0 and, after the power cut, opened them again during the day for light. The balcony is where one player played the radio so the zombies at the door would not hear it.

Night checklist

  1. Everyone inside (and Daniel, if he lives with you).
  2. Door locked and chained; blinds closed.
  3. On crowd nights, one or two pieces of furniture you can move again against the door.
  4. Screws and a board at home in case the door gives way.
  5. A weapon within reach and a clear space behind you to fight in.

How long does a door hold?

Long enough for a night, usually. One player’s neighboring doors stayed “half broken” for days before giving way, while another run lost its front door in a single crowd night after fighting at it. What decides it in the recordings is how many zombies gather and whether you make noise near the door; a barricaded door held through a full crowd night.
